Central German Institute for Wine Research

The Central German Institute for Wine Research was founded at the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in May 2008. This scientific institute was formed primarily to support the Saale-Unstrut wine-growing area, the most northerly vintage wine producing region in Europe. Changes in climatic conditions are making wine growing in Central Germany harder. New strategies need to be developed to secure the yield from the native vintage wine growing areas. The Director of the institute is Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Kleinschmidt, Professor of Food Process Engineering at the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences.
